Have A Heart, Inc. Marketing Internship Position

Have A Heart, located in River Falls, Wisconsin, is seeking a highly motivated and creative Marketing & Development Intern to help expand our outreach, digital presence, and fundraising capacity. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate looking to gain hands-on, cross-functional experience in marketing, digital communications, and non-profit development, while contributing to a mission-driven organization.

This internship is primarily remote, requiring regular online communication and meetings with the organization’s leadership. As a non-profit, this is an unpaid internship, but we are happy to work with candidates to provide college credit or documentation of volunteer hours.

Key Responsibilities

The intern will be involved in a wide range of tasks designed to develop a comprehensive marketing and outreach strategy:

  1. Digital Marketing & Content Creation (Primary Responsibilities)
  • Social Media Marketing: Develop, schedule, and post engaging content (photos, stories, updates) across all social media platforms to increase brand awareness and engagement.
  • Video Creation: Produce short, compelling video content (e.g., testimonials, program highlights, fundraising appeals) for use on the website and social channels.
  • Website Development: Assist in updating and maintaining the organization’s website, ensuring content is current, engaging, and optimized for search (SEO basics).
  • Marketing Plan Development: Research and help draft a comprehensive marketing and communications plan to guide future outreach efforts.
  1. Fundraising & Development Support (Sales-Related Responsibilities)
  • Donation Request Calls: Assist in outreach and “sales” calls to potential corporate sponsors, community partners, and individual donors.
  • Grant/Donation Research: Identify and research potential funding opportunities, grants, and in-kind donation sources (e.g., wish list items).
  • Communication Materials: Help create and refine compelling fundraising letters, email campaigns, and informational brochures.
  1. General Marketing & Administration (Minimal)
  • Provide general support for various marketing, public relations, and administrative tasks as needed.
  • Participate in scheduled online meetings to report on progress and coordinate efforts.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Marketing or Digital Marketing, or a related field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and best practices.
  • Familiarity with website content management systems (e.g., Squarespace) is a plus.
  • Experience with basic video editing software or graphic design tools (e.g., Canva) is highly desirable.
  • Comfortable with making professional calls for sales and donation requests.
  • Organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing tasks independently in a remote environment.
  • A genuine interest in and dedication to the mission of supporting individuals with disabilities.
