Communications Specialist Intern
The City of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota is looking for a communications specialist/intern who can assist the communications coordinator with the following duties:
- Serve as the city’s webmaster
- Serve as the employee intranet coordinator
- Write the employee newsletter
- Write feature stories for the city’s media
- Assist in media relations efforts
- Monitor the city’s social media sites 24/7
The position is 20 hours a week, flexible hours and includes night and weekend work and attending and reporting on community events. This is not a “get coffee and run errands” job. You will leave with a portfolio that other employers will love! Past interns have all found full-time jobs upon graduation. You must enjoy working with diverse populations, as more than 50 percent of our residents are people of color.
The minimum qualifications are as follows:
- Pursuing a bachelors degree with coursework in any area of strategic communications, journalism or marketing
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
- Ability to determine priorities, handle multiple tasks and work independently
- Ability to present a professional postive image
- Ability to work evening and weekend hours
- Ability to provide a high level of customer service
- Ability to relate and work with individuals who represent a wide variety of diverse cultural backgrounds
Desired qualifications include:
- Fantastic creative storyteller
- Video shooting and editing skills
- Knowledge of social media sites
- Knowledge of html and search engine optimization
