Myth: An Interior Designer is the same as an Interior Decorator
It could be said that an Interior Designer is an interior architect. An Interior Designer knows building materials and systems, building codes and regulations, and sustainable design practices. Interior Designers also generate drawings and specifications for the purpose of construction. An Interior Designer is qualified by education, experience, and examination to design commercial and residential spaces that protect the health, safety, and welfare of the people who use the space. Everywhere you go – restaurant, bank, store, theater, office, etc. – someone had to design it so that it could be built to code and meet the desired image. It was likely an Interior Designer and/or an Architect, not an interior decorator.
