U.S. representative secures $1.175 million to support law enforcement officers and commercial driving students
Dakota County Technical College and Inver Hills Community College share a long history of collaboration with Congresswoman Angie Craig, Second District Minnesota. Bob Trewartha, director of Continuing Education and Customized Training (CECT), reported that the congresswoman was instrumental in acquiring more than $1 million in funding to repave the DCTC Decision Driving Range and make much needed repairs on the infrastructure of DCTC Transportation programs.
Congresswoman Craig visited the driving range Tuesday morning, August 16, 2022, with Mumina Mohamud, her senior community liaison, and Cristina Diaz, her constituent advocate. She was met by Jim Unger, a retired law enforcement officer who serves as the CECT public safety coordinator, as well as Kim Shaff, director of the DCTC and Inver Hills foundations, and Lisé Freking, director of DCTC and Inver Hills Marketing and Strategic Communications.
“The congresswoman sat in the front passenger seat of a DCTC pursuit training vehicle while Jim took the wheel and demonstrated high-speed driving on the range,” Bob said. “Jim also explained the amazing commercial driving and law enforcement pursuit vehicle training we do at DCTC. That training is the cornerstone of CECT—and one of the crown jewels of offerings we have at our college.”
Bob added that Congresswoman Craig has been a strong supporter of technical education funding and has participated in a number of college events.
“The congresswoman has a son who benefited from a technical education and is gainfully employed with a great career,” he said. “As a result, she has firsthand knowledge of the value of technical colleges in our state.”
Representative Angie Craig Visits Dakota County Technical College to Highlight Federal Investments in Career and Technical Education, Law Enforcement Training
Craig secured $1.175 million in Community Project Funding to provide much-needed improvements to the Minnesota State Commercial Driving Skills Center
August 17, 2022 • Press Release
ROSEMOUNT, MN – Yesterday, U.S. Representative Angie Craig visited Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) to visit the newly updated Minnesota State Commercial Driving Skills Center (CDSC) and attend a law enforcement driver training course. Earlier this year, Representative Craig secured $1.175 million in Community Project Funding to update and enhance the CDSC for the law enforcement officers and commercial driving students who use it for training.
“Expanding access to career and technical education has been one of my top priorities as a Member of Congress,” said Representative Craig. “So, I am thrilled to see the track being put to good use and can’t wait to see the improvements to come – this is infrastructure that will not only help prepare commercial driving students and law enforcement officers with enhanced skills and training, but will also make our roads safer and help keep our shelves stocked. It was great working with DCTC to secure these funds, and I look forward to finding more ways to give all our students the tools they need to succeed in a 21st-century economy.”
