New Family-Friendly Conference Room

Remodeled space allows parents to bring children to college meetings on campus

Dakota County Technical College now has a Family-Friendly Conference Room on campus. Located in Room 2-140A, the newly remodeled space allows students with children to meet on campus with college representatives, including admissions professionals, academic advisors, counselors, faculty members, tutors, and more, without making arrangements for childcare.

“Children have a safe place to play with age-appropriate items while their parents are free to focus on their meeting,” said Aria Kronebusch, the college’s career and transfer resource center director. “MN Reconnect funded the conference room and our Operations department remodeled the space. Sharon Bergen, faculty in our Early Childhood & Youth Development program, helped with the family-first design.”

Aria added that Sharon is having her students choose and rotate books for the space. Sharon also has plans for spring semester 2022 that include having students in her Learning and Creativity in Early Childhood course craft wall hangings to make the space more child friendly.

“Ideas are already in the works to expand the concept,” Aria said.
