Delay impacts Blue Knights women’s volleyball, men’s soccer and women’s soccer
After regularly monitoring the COVID-19 situation within Minnesota as well as regionally, Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) has postponed the college’s fall athletics season until spring 2021.
DCTC’s announcement follows the decision by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), of which DCTC is a member, to delay all close-contact sports, including football, men and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball. DCTC participates in men’s soccer, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball in the fall.
“Our greatest focus is and always has been providing the best opportunities for our student-athletes,” stated Dr. Christopher Parker, NJCAA president and CEO. “Through a unified effort from our Presidential Advisory Council, the Board of Regents, and leadership staff, our most recent plan of action provides a path that keeps our student-athletes competing at the highest level with proper safety measures in place. As we move forward as an association, we will continue to provide opportunities for our student-athletes, coaches, and all those involved with the NJCAA to be safe and successful.”
Michael Berndt, DCTC president, agreed with Dr. Parker’s assessment. “Our coaches and Student Affairs leaders have been following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) in determining how to support our athletes while ensuring rigorous safety protocols are in place.”
In preparation for the spring seasons, the college will continue to review a range of modifications and adapted protocols and guidelines with the highest priority being the safety of our student athletes, coaches and staff.
