Learn to Weld

From the experts at Dakota County Technical College

Minnesota Training Connection is offering welding training from 8 a.m. to noon on three Saturdays in August 2020. The training is designed for weekend home maintenance warriors and anyone interested in learning how to weld.

Gas Metal Arc Welding Basics (GMAW): Saturday, August 1, 2020, 8 a.m. to noon.
Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW): Saturday, August 8, 2020, 8 a.m. to noon.
Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW): Saturday, August 15, 2020, 8 a.m. to noon.

REQUIRED CLOTHING AND GEAR: Wear your own leather boots, cotton jeans and cotton long-sleeved shirt. If you have your own welding helmet and welding gloves, bring if you want to use them. Otherwise, these items and all other supplies will be provided.

GMAW

Gas metal arc welding (GMAW), sometimes referred to by its subtypes metal inert gas (MIG) welding or metal active gas (MAG) welding, is a welding process in which an electric arc forms between a consumable MIG wire electrode and the workpiece metal(s), which heats the workpiece metal(s), causing them to melt and join.

Welding Technology at DCTC

The Welding Technology program at Dakota County Technical College offers a variety of training in different welding processes specific to the welding trade. As a student in the program, you will gain knowledge through theory in class and hands-on experience in the college’s state-of-the-art welding labs.

Major topics and welding processes covered in this nine-month course will prepare you for entry-level positions in the welding industry.
