Students rack up 13 top three finishes at competitions in Dallas, Texas

Business Professionals of America (BPA) students from Dakota County Technical College, joined thousands of students from across the U.S. at the 2018 BPA National Leadership Conference (NLC) May 9–13 in Dallas, Texas.

“The theme for this year’s NLC was Dream Bigger,” said Marie Saunders, DCTC accounting faculty and BPA chapter advisor. “The conference provided four days of competitions, leadership development, workshops, National Officer Elections and tours. We stayed at the Gaylord Texan in Dallas.”

Marta Roth, 22, of Rosemount, Minnesota, placed first in four events, second in one and third in another (see below for details). Marta double-majored at DCTC, earning an A.S. in Business Administration and an A.A.S. in Accounting.

Kevin Day, Ryan Monio, Shelby Roth and Juan Vega took third place in Network Design Team; Kevin Day also took third in C++ Programming; Wendy Bahr took third in Parliamentary Procedure Concepts and Shelby Roth took third in PC Servicing and Troubleshooting.

BPA NLC 2018 conference objectives:

  • Participate in educational seminars and workshops.
  • Hear nationally prominent speakers.
  • Elect national student officers.
  • Participate in the Workplace Skills Assessment Program.
  • Participate in general assemblies designed to conduct the business of Business Professionals of America.
  • Transact business of the association.
  • Participate in leadership programs.
