Ten students break top 10 in 25 events at national competition
Students and faculty from Dakota County Technical College attended the 2017 Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference (NLC), “Spread Your Wings,” May 9–14 in Orlando, Florida, joining thousands of students from across the U.S. The DCTC students participated in a range of competitions, tours and workshops, showcasing their business acumen while developing their leadership skills.
Lyle Stelter and Marie Saunders, DCTC Accounting faculty and BPA co-advisors, attended the four-day conference with the college’s BPA student members. Lyle and Marie have years of experience guiding business, accounting and IT students who take advantage of membership in the national organization, which was formed in 1966 to produce “global professionals through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic and technological skills for students at the middle, secondary and postsecondary levels.”
“We are so proud of the excellence and professionalism our students displayed as they competed at the BPA National Leadership Conference,” Lyle said. “Every student competing at the 51st annual event placed in the top ten. All ten students were called to the stage to accept their awards.”
“We are very proud of our students and happy to see another great year of their hard work pay off,” Marie added. “Stephanie Hunt, a former DCTC student and BPA member, was elected to the BPA National Officer Team at the conference. She is serving as secretary-treasurer, post-secondary division.”
