Practical Nursing teacher honored with annual award
Renee LeMieux, faculty in the Practical Nursing program at Dakota County Technical College, has been named the college’s 2017 Instructor of the Year. Recipients of this annual award are selected based on their dedication to higher education, celebration of student success and exemplary teaching skills.
Renee began teaching at DCTC in September 2012. She has a B.A. in Nursing from Crown College, a private Christian college in St. Bonifacious, Minnesota. She earned her M.S.N. in Nursing Education from Walden University in 2013.
Her current course load includes Adult Health Nursing I and II, Maternal and Child Health, and LPN clinicals. The latter experiences offer students opportunities to apply what they’ve learned in labs and classrooms in a clinical setting.
“I love my students’ energy and eagerness to learn. They won’t accept mediocrity from themselves—and this inspires me to always improve my own performance.”

Brenda Arneson, Practical Nursing program director, reported that Renee as a teacher represents the very best in technical education—health care in particular.
“Renee is a remarkable instructor who reflects the positive impact the DCTC Practical Nursing program is making on our community,” Brenda said. “I am so proud of Renee and am honored to be a part of such a wonderful team.”
Thanks to a lifelong love of learning, Renee brings substantial technical skills and insight to her curriculum. She assisted elderly patients at Geriatric Services of Minnesota and worked for a decade as a registered nurse (RN) with Golden Hearts, Inc. She also served as the director of nursing at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine, Minnesota.
“I love my students’ energy and eagerness to learn,” Renee said, referring to what she enjoys most about teaching at DCTC. “They won’t accept mediocrity from themselves—and this inspires me to always improve my own performance.”
Each year, Renee looks forward to graduation as the time she can witness her triumphant students crossing the stage to accept their diplomas. Renee LeMieux will be honored at this year’s ceremony as the DCTC 2017 Instructor of the Year.
