Twelve students advance to BPA NLC in Orlando
Students representing Dakota County Technical College did exceptionally well in the 2017 Business Professionals of America (BPA) College Division State Leadership Conference (SLC) competitions held Feb. 24–25 at the college’s main campus in Rosemount, Minnesota. Twelve students advanced to the BPA National Leadership Conference (NLC) in Orlando, Florida, May 10–14, 2017, at the Swan–Dolphin Hotels. The theme of this year’s national conference is “Spread Your Wings.”
DCTC BPA students joined more than 130 other conference delegates from across Minnesota to participate in general sessions and competitive events. The students were accompanied by their BPA faculty co-advisors, Marie Saunders and Lyle Stelter, both accounting instructors at the college.
“We are so proud of our DCTC students and the leadership they bring to the state and national officer teams,” said Stelter, who has been involved in BPA for 25 years. “A number of our winners, including Marta Roth, Kevin Day, Cheryl Brogger, Dan Nguyen and Ryan Monio, were top ten finishers at the 2016 NLC in Boston, Massachusetts. Marta’s twin brother, Shelby, took part in the SLC this year and has advanced to the 2017 NLC.”
Minnesota students attending the NLC in Orlando will stay at the Walt Disney World Swan Hotel. The conference presents opportunities for students to become more involved in BPA through a number of activities, including:
Participating in educational seminars and workshops
- Listening to nationally prominent speakers
- Electing student officers
- Competing in a variety of workplace skills assessments
- Making recommendations regarding association policies
- Taking part in general assemblies designed to conduct association business
- Transacting association business
