Jeff Dexter will present “Finding your way home after combat”
Dakota County Veteran Representative Jeff Dexter will present on the realities of reintegration after military deployment Wednesday, Nov. 9 at Dakota County Technical College.
Dexter is a veteran of the United States Navy and the US Army. He has served for more than 18 years including military service and training. As part of his service, Dexter deployed three times.
Offering his own experiences, Dexter will talk about the realities of returning home after combat. Dexter is frank about how difficult reintegration was for him and impacts it had on his life. A former youth group leader, Dexter said the experience of coming home after deployment is different for everyone.
“I’m changed forever. To me it’s for the better but I’m changed,” said Dexter.
Many people have preconceived notions of what a veteran is. Dexter said veterans are a diverse group with a variety of life experiences.
“Do you know what a veteran looks like? Do you want to know?” said Dexter.
Dexter said he hopes his presentation will help people understand the complexities of what veterans face.
The presentation, hosted by DCTC’s Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Committee, is open to the campus community. The presentation will be held at noon in Room 1-630 near the Central Commons. Appetizers will be served.
