Kathy Gervais won voters over with her chili that featured butter and heavy cream
Kathy Gervais took home the top prize for the 2016 Dakota County Technical College Lions Club Chili Cook Off. Kathy, a member of the DCTC staff, won with her “A Taste of Heaven” recipe. She bested more than 20 others recipes submitted.
A different take on the classic dish, Kathy said the ingredients that made her chili special were “lots of butter and heavy cream.” She taste tested the recipe on her family before the cook off and got their stamp of approval.
“They thought it was a winner… so they were right!” said Kathy.
The Lancer team, headed by Matt Moyhan, came in second with their “Three Wise Men” submission. The Lancer team had hoped to defend their title as the reigning champion but Kathy edged them out.
The Lancer team didn’t go home empty handed though. Everyone who brought in a crock pot of chili was entered for a chance to win a Minnesota Vikings Jersey signed by Teddy Bridgewater and Moyhan won the coveted jersey.
The sixth annual Chili Cook Off, the event raised $800 for Defending the Blue Line, a local organization that supports military families who need help covering the cost of their kids’ athletic equipment. Advisor Brett Kolles said the club surpassed their fundraising goal.
“Our goal was $500, but the generosity of students, staff, and faculty was overwhelming!” said Kolles.
