The Blue Knights’ historic season came to a close with a loss to Columbus State
The Dakota County Technical College Men’s Basketball team suffered their second national tournament loss 77 – 64 at the hands of Columbus State Community College Cougars. The Blue Knights started out strong and at one point held a six-point lead. DCTC and Columbus State exchanged the lead five times throughout the game. However, the Blue Knights could not match the momentum of the Cougars down the stretch.
The Blue Knights started tournament play against the second-seed Lansing Community College Stars in their first National Junior College Athletic Association Division II National Tournament game. The Stars won 91-78 in the Danville Area Community College gymnasium. The Blue Knights (20-10) showed their offensive strength throughout the first half and were within four at half-time. The team came out hot after the break and took a short-lived lead. However, the Stars (28-4) buckled down outscoring and out rebounding the Blue Knights in the second half.
Despite the losses, the 2015-16 men’s basketball team made school history by being the first DCTC athletic program to make a National Tournament. The Blue Knights beat the Southeast Community College Storm (14-12) 93 – 76 to win the National Junior College Athletic Association District VII Championship March 6 at the Inver Hills Athletic Center to qualify for the tournament.
