Don’t Let Your Extra Car Look Like This!

Now is the time to donate your extra vehicle to DCTC and qualify for a tax deduction before Dec. 31, 2015

Vehicle donations are accepted the second Tuesday of the month from noon – 2 p.m. at our main campus at 1300 – 145th Street East (Dakota County Road 42), Rosemount, MN.  Donors are asked to bring the vehicle to the back (south) of the Automotive TechnicianWe are accepting vehicles that are year 2000 or newer.  Donors must provide title and/or lien release if there was ever a loan on the vehicle.  The next donation date is Tuesday, Dec. 8.

DCTC does not determine the value of the donated car. Instead donors are asked to check the NADA Blue Book, and your accountant, to determine the value and to learn how much you can claim on your income tax.

“The donated vehicles allow our students hands-on experience with automotive repair,” notes Auto Technician Program Instructor Jeff Copeland.  “It helps train our students for these high demand jobs. Most of our students have found future employment by the end of their first semester.”

Automotive technicians find employment at dealerships, independent shops and specialty shops. According to ISEEK, Minnesota’s career, education and job resource, employment for automotive service technicians and mechanics is expected to grow 12.4 percent in Minnesota by the year 2020, which is above the statewide average. ISEE projects that there will be a need for about 3,840 new Automotive Service Technicians and Mechanics to meet market demand between 2010-2020. This includes the demand due to replacement (workers leaving the occupation or retiring) as well as growth.

Graduates of the auto tech program are hired as automobile technicians, automobile service advisors, automotive repair technicians, automotive engineers and service managers with an average of $19.31/hour.   Top earners are paid $29.01/hour, based on information from ISEEK: Minneapolis-St. Paul seven-county metro area, 2015.
