DCTC Welcomes New Interior Design Instructor

Interior Design

Meghan Hendrickson brings a passion for design to the program

Meghan Hendrickson not only brings a wealth of knowledge from the interior design she brings a love of design to the program.  “From a very early age I knew I wanted to be a designer,” states Hendrickson.  “To me, design is a marriage of architecture and art and teaching allows me to use my passion for both every day.”

After Hendrickson graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Art Degree from the University of Wisconsin/Stout, she spent a semester abroad in Florence, Italy.   This gave her the opportunity to totally immerse herself in the culture, while doing the mundane–finding an apartment, shopping for groceries and enjoying all the sites the city had to offer.  Her experience in Italy honed her design skills and prepared her for work in the commercial design industry.

Hendrickson has a worked in the commercial interior design industry for ten years.   She has a variety of experience in the industry that includes working for a small interior design firm based in Gothenburg, Sweden to one of the largest architecture and engineering firms in the world.

She is a Certified Interior Designer in the state of Minnesota and is a Leadership Energy in Environmental Design (LEED) accredited professional.  The LEED program was developed by the United States Green Building Council to rate buildings on how “green” they are and to ensure that designers understand the “green” process.

Hendrickson has been teaching interior design at DCTC since January, 2015.  “The interior design program at DCTC allows the students to be very hands on,” notes Hendrickson.  “I love mentoring young designers and giving them the skills they need to be successful in the industry.”

Anne Farniok, DCTC Interior Design Director and Instructor said, “I worked with Meghan and I knew what an asset she would be to this program.  We’re so excited to have her wealth of industry knowledge here at DCTC.”

When Hendrickson isn’t teaching she loves to spend time with her husband, Matt, and 8-month old daughter, Mariana.    Hendrickson is a self-proclaimed “wanna be foodie” and loves to bake–she has perfected French silk pie recipe.  She also loves to cross country ski and enjoys being outdoors.  Hendrickson describes herself as creative, hard-working and pragmatic.
