DCTC Interior Design Students Take First Place Honors at American Society of Interior Designers Charrette

Annual charrette challenges students in hands-on one day design competition

Three DCTC Interior Design students took first place honors at the first annual American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) charrette held at International Market Square in Minneapolis on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 .

The ASID charrette allowed interior design students from around the state to compete in a hands-on design competition.  The students worked in teams to provide design concepts for a remodel of a commercial space.  Professional interior designers from ASID judged the projects and provided feedback.  The award winners were selected by the most innovative solution provided.

The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) is a community of designers, industry representatives, educators and students committed to interior design. They strive to advance the interior design profession and, in the process, to demonstrate and celebrate the power of design to positively change people’s lives. More than 24,000 members engage in a variety of professional programs and activities through a network of 48 chapters throughout the United States and Canada.

Founded in 1975, ASID is the oldest, largest and leading professional organization for interior designers.  The Society’s membership also includes nearly 5,000 students of interior design. ASID has more than 280 student chapters at colleges, universities and design schools with 2-year and 4-year programs throughout the U.S. as well as several “virtual” chapters through online institutions.

DCTC’s Interior Design program has been in existence since the early 70’s.  “With over 40 years of experience preparing students to launch a career in the interior design profession our program is highly regarded in the industry and our students are in demand,” states program director Anne Farniok.
