Faculty and staff encouraged to plan semester scheduling around this time
Dakota County Technical College recently implemented a Common Hour. This is a time set aside every Wednesday from 1–2 p.m. to promote communication and engagement among faculty, staff and students. The Common Hour provides an opportunity for the campus community to get involved and participate in campus activities, events and special programs.
A common hour is used by many colleges. Mike Opp, the college’s vice president of academic and student affairs, noted that Wednesdays at this time represents an ideal use of DCTC facilities. “We are hoping the DCTC community will recognize the value of a Common Hour,” Opp said. “We are looking forward to having one hundred percent participation in scheduling future semesters around this time.”
Each Wednesday of the month will be designated for a different event or topic:
- Every first Wednesday: Department meetings and student life activities
- Every second Wednesday: Student Senate meetings and community-building activities
- Every third Wednesday: Administration, campus updates, presentation of reports, enrollment management and various student life activities
- Every fourth Wednesday: Student Senate meetings and faculty meetings
- Every fifth Wednesday: Campus activities
