Patrick LairPatrick Lair served as the welcoming face of DCTC for nearly 15 years in his role as admissions director. Throughout that time, Pat showed his support for students and the educational pathways that changed their lives with passion, professionalism, good cheer, understanding and seemingly endless energy. His guidance helped thousands of students navigate the college experience and achieve their career goals. Pat’s unrivaled commitment to the college mission and his natural ability to relate to the aspirations and concerns of students from all walks of life recently led to his new appointment as director of student success.

Pat has a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from the College of St. Catherine and a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy/Music Education from Ohio University. He has sung in the gospel quartet, Sent Forth, for more than 16 years. He brings his love for music to campus, having performed at numerous special events held by the college. He has emceed ceremonies and celebrations, announced games and served in a hosting capacity at a wide variety of activities.

Pat during time as admissions directorAs DCTC admissions director, Pat worked hard to help new students understand the essentials of college life and become comfortable on campus. He has helped hundreds of students find the right program or classes—with the vast majority going on to achieve their educational and career goals. An amazing number of students cite Pat as the reason they decided to enroll at DCTC, pointing to his welcoming nature and the enthusiasm he shows for the work the college.

Pat Lair with Bernie McCoy Community Service AwardAdept at promoting the college at high schools and workforce centers as well as to community groups and more, Pat possesses a collegiate spirit that consistently takes him above and beyond the call of duty volunteering his time and talent on behalf of the DCTC community. That spirit also ensures that Pat has a great working relationship with his colleagues on campus.

Pat grew up in Albert Lea, Minn., the youngest of four and the only boy. He has been married to Mary (a public health nurse) for more than 32 years. Pat and Mary reside in Bloomington. They have two daughters, Kate, 27, and Loreena, 24.

DCTC proudly recognizes Patrick Lair as the recipient of the 2013 Spirit of DCTC Award. His unwavering focus on a students-first approach to college services is an example that sets a very high bar.
