Fundraising event supports DCTC Softball’s team spring training in Florida

On Jan. 19, 2013, the Dakota County Technical College Women’s Softball program held their first fundraising event at the Rosemount VFW. Approximately 150 people attended the event, including players, coaches, staff, family and friends. The funds raised will help the softball team travel to Florida for spring training. While there, the Blue Knights will play 10 games against teams from across the country.

“It was really fun to get everyone together,” said Trena Larson, a freshman outfielder, from Prior Lake, Minn. “Instead of smaller fundraisers, we wanted to do something big, and the Silver Plate Dinner was a great way to do it.”

According to Alyssa Kaiswatum, a freshman pitcher from Regina, Saskatchewan, the team went early to prepare for the event. “We had to clean up, organize the tables, and decorate. It was fun doing that with all the girls on the team.”

“It was a great way to bring everyone together to support the DCTC Softball program,” said Head Softball Coach Tom Cross. “I want to thank everyone who came out to attend the event.”

This is the Blue Knights first season playing softball at the NJCAA Division II Level. The team’s first game will be played at the Irish Sports Dome on Friday, March 8 against Iowa Central Community College.
