Blue Knights Head to Iowa for Kirkwood Community College Tournament

Dakota County Technical College Blue Knights men’s basketball team is ranked #6 in the nation on the latest National Junior College Athletic Association Division II poll. In addition to winning their first two games this season, the Blue Knights had a very successful 2011-12 season, with a record of 24—6, which has led the team to a national ranking so early this season. “I am very proud of our team,” said Head Basketball Coach Jay Pivec. “We have a great program and it is an honor to be ranked this high.”

The Blue Knights have a young team this year. Chris McMorris, Clinton Parker Jr., Stephen Solaja, and Bryale Winters, are the only four returning players. “These guys are strong team leaders and the new players look to them for support,” said Pivec. “I am really excited to be working with the whole team and watching them play. For some, this is their first time playing a college game, and to share those experiences with them is rewarding.”

With no on-campus facility, the Blue Knights play their home games at The Salvation Army Community Center or Concordia University in St. Paul, Minn. The team played at Concordia University for their first home game, with an 81—67 win against the Western Technical College Cavaliers from La Crosse, Wis. The Blue Knights are on the road November 16 to play in the Kirkwood Community College Tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After the tournament, the team is back home to play the Iowa Central Community College Tritons on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Concordia University.

“We are off to a great start this season, but have many tough games ahead,” said Pivec. “I am flattered with this national ranking. It is difficult to get there, and now that we are on top we hope to stay there.”
