Patricia Kujala | 2012 DCTC Outstanding Instructor of the Year

Practical Nursing teacher earns DCTC’s highest faculty honor

Patricia Kujala, an instructor in the Practical Nursing program at Dakota County Technical College, was named 2012 Instructor of the Year during DCTC’s premiere True Blue Gala held April 19, 2012. The award represents the highest honor DCTC bestows on a faculty member.

Patricia is dedicated to advancing the best practices of the nursing profession. Her passion for facilitating student success and her continued professional development have contributed greatly to making DCTC an institution of exceptional learning.

Patti has been teaching at DCTC since 1988. She completed the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at Winona State University in May 2010. She also earned her Master of Science in the university’s Nurse Educator program. A certified public health nurse, she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Metropolitan State University.

Her industry experience includes time working in long-term care and acute care. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. “My teaching philosophy is that faculty facilitate student learning and treat students as adult learners,” she states. When she’s not working, Patti enjoys walking, reading, traveling and spending time with her grandchild.

The best part of her job as a DCTC instructor is making a difference in the lives of her students—and that she has. The comments from Patti’s students who nominated her for the Outstanding Instructor of the Year Award emphasized her dedication to both the nursing profession and the enduring success of her students. As one student says, “I will forever remember Patti’s wonderful approach to teaching. She helped mold me into the nurse I am today.”
