We should always remember our heroes and their sacrifices, but November 11th is a day set aside specifically to recognize and honor veterans.
The history of Veterans Day reaches back to the First World War when the Allied nations and Germany declared an armistice on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. Armistice Day was born and in 1938 an Act was approved to make the 11th of November a legal holiday in honor of World War I vets. The Act was amended in 1954 to change the name to Veterans Day and to declare it a day to honor American veterans of all wars.
