DCTC basketball fans are hoping 11/11/11 is a lucky date for Head Coach Jay Pivec and his Blue Knights as they open their inaugural season against the North Iowa Area Community College Trojans (2–1) at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, in Mason City, Iowa. The Knights are playing in the Konigsmark Klassic, which will be aired on NIACC Sports Net.

Blue Knights basketball practice“Right from the start, we have been committed to proving to the community that our players are both serious students and ready to play at the highest level,” said Pivec, who, with Associate Head Coach Ron Gates, put together a remarkable recruiting effort over the summer of 2011. “One of the primary goals of our program will be to guide our students on to four-year colleges and universities where they can continue their academic and athletic careers. DCTC is the beginning, not the end—and that’s what will separate us from the pack.”

Blue Knights basketball practiceThe Knights compete as an independent at the NJCAA DII level. The team plays home games at the The Salvation Army, Community Center and practices at the High Performance Academy in Eagan, Minn.
