Medical Merger
Beginning fall semester 2011, DCTC will offer a new program in Office Careers⎯Healthcare Documentation Specialist. The 39-credit diploma represents the merger of two other programs, Medical Transcriptionist and Medical Coding Specialist. Graduates with the new diploma will be better prepared to contribute and prosper in high-tech medical environments.
“A shift in the health care industry led us to create this new, more powerful diploma,” said Susan Johanson, an instructor in Office Careers medical programs. “We will be using the same top-of-the-line speech recognition software used in hospital systems around the state. Students earning this diploma will have the skill range of the modern documentation specialist in the fast-changing field of health care.”
