Line Superintendent Dale Olofson presents Elliot Evenson with $600 scholarship check
Dale Olofson, the line superintendent of maintenance and construction at Rochester Public Utilities, dropped by Claus Newman‘s Electrical Lineworker classroom to present student Elliot Evenson with a $600 scholarship check. RPU employees raised the scholarship funds to honor Jeff Peterson, a 22-year RPU lineworker who died of heart attack while on the job.
A 34-year industry veteran at RPU, Olofson spoke to the class for about 30 minutes about life as a lineworker and potential job opportunities at RPU, which serves 50,000 customers. The utility employs 25 linemen; 15 are DCTC graduates. The last nine out of 10 lineworkers hired by RPU have come from the DCTC program.
Evenson, 21, is originally from Decorah, Iowa. His future plans are to work as a lineworker at a power company, preferably in his home state.
