DCTC Women’s Soccer Upends ILCC

Blue Knights advance to second round of NJCAA Region XI Tourney

The DCTC Blue Knights women’s soccer team rolled over the Iowa Lakes Community College Lakers 4–1 Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010, in the first round of the 2010 NJCAA Region XI Women’s Soccer Tournament at the Ames Soccer Complex on the DCTC campus in Rosemount, Minn. The win allowed the Knights, seeded third in the tourney, to advance to the second round against the Iowa Central Community College Tritons, the second seed, Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at 12 noon on Field 8 at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines, Iowa.

“The weather was horrible for the game against Iowa Lakes,” said Head Coach Cam Stoltz. “We had cold rain and winds gusting over forty miles per hour. We opted to play into the wind in the first half and the Tritons went up one-nothing. For the first twenty-five minutes of the second half, the Tritons packed the goal and played defensively, trying to protect their lead.”

Freshman Midfielder Cassie Solis eventually broke through, hitting a goal from outside the 18. That score opened the way for three more, one each from Sophomore Forward Amanda Olsen, Freshman Midfielder Katia Galvan and Freshman Forward Kaci Baird-Schienbein. Olsen also had two assists.

Amanda Olsen leads the ICCAC with 28 goals. Katia Galvan is third with 18. Olsen leads the conference in assists with 16; Galvan is second with 15.
