Will Dahlgren shines as best player on 2010 Bulldogs team

Will Dahlgren

Will Dahlgren, a former star outfielder for Blue Knights baseball, was named the 2010 Most Valuable Player on the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs baseball team. As a senior at UMD, Dahlgren lit up the diamond, batting .368 while driving in a university record-crushing 71 RBIs. A native of Burnsville, Minn., he swatted a team-leading 10 home runs, stole 14 bases and made only one error all season, the latter accomplishment earning him a slot on the NSIC Central Region Gold Glove Second Team. A 180-pound, 5’10” tri-captain of Bulldogs baseball, he also made the 2010 Daktronics Baseball Central Region Second Team.

Nicknamed “Willy D,” Dahlgren played one season for Dakota County Technical College, leading the 2008 squad with a .436 batting average and 50 RBIs, going 58 for 133 with 10 doubles, five triples and five home runs. A rocket on the base paths, he stole 15 bases in 17 attempts. Also a right-handed pitcher, he posted 1–2 win/loss record, notching a 2.44 ERA, two saves and 15 strikeouts in 14.1 innings pitched. An excellent student, he posted a 3.6 GPA, making the Presidents List for two semesters while at DCTC

Dahlgren graduated from Burnsville High School in 2006, earning five letters in football and baseball. He captained the BHS football and baseball teams his senior year. For more on the story, read “DAHLGREN HEADLINES 2010 UMD BASEBALL AWARD WINNERS” on the UMD Bulldogs website.
