Tara Kimberly and Maria Leidner up for Louisville Slugger/NFCA honor
Two Blue Knights student-athletes, Maria Leidner and Tara Kimberly, have been nominated for the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Team. Team members will be announced Tuesday, June 1, 2010.
Freshman Maria Leidner started all 40 games at shortstop, hitting in the three-slot for the Knights all season. She led the team in almost every offensive category and spent much of the season hitting over .500. Anchoring the infield, she served as team captain through the team’s inaugural campaign.
Sophomore Tara Kimberly led the nation in innings pitched with 251. She faced more than 1,200 batters in 2010, striking out 206 while only walking 66. She also put in a solid year at the plate, batting .288 and nailing down the two-spot in the order all year.
“This is a great day for this program and these two extraordinary young ladies,” said Head Coach Aaron Vail. “Both girls have a legitimate chance to be named All-American and are among the nation’s best at what they do. On top of their on-field accomplishments, both have nearly perfect GPAs and are model citizens away from the field. I look forward to future student-athletes following in their shoes and demanding the most of themselves in helping us establish this young program as a national contender.”
