DCTC Fastpitch wins 8–7 in night game
The Blue Knights fastpitch softball team edged past the Carleton College Knights Monday night, March 1, 2010, at the Irish Sports Dome in Rosemount, Minn., winning 8–7 in late-night game.
Pitcher Tara Kimberly, Michelle Hinz and shortstop Maria Leidner spearheaded the DCTC offense with two hits apiece. Ashlee Hunt, Nichole Wagner, Angie Wilson and Ranae Fasig each added one hit for a team total of 10 hits. Hinz, who handles third base duties, scored three runs.
Kimberly threw six innings for the first victory of her collegiate career, giving up five earned runs while striking out seven and walking two. DCTC fielding improved from four errors against Hamline University in the first game of the season to half that number against Carleton.
“Again, our girls amaze us,” said Aaron Vail, who earned his first collegiate victory as a head coach. “We took advantage of the opportunities Carleton gave us and created many of our own. Tara showed the mark of a good pitcher by battling through when things got tough. Her defense played well behind her. Our offensive production increased by six runs and six hits from our showing against the Pipers. We continue to get better every day.”
Thursday, March 4, 2010, the team takes on St. Olaf College, at 10 p.m. at the Irish Sports Dome.
