Blue Knights lose to Pipers JV 2–5
Taking the field Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at the Irish Sports Dome in Rosemount, Minn., for the first game of their inaugural season, the DCTC Blue Knights fastpitch softball team battled strong against the Hamline University Pipers junior varsity, falling 2–5 in six innings.
“Although we came out on the short end of the game, the day was a rousing success for our program,” said Head Coach Aaron Vail.
The Knights scored on Rachel Sydow’s two-run homer in the second inning—in the first at bat of her college career. The team collected four hits total along with two walks.
Sophomore pitcher Tara Kimberly kept the Knights in the game, scattering five hits over six innings while giving up four earned runs. Kimberly also struck out six and walked three. Jessica Glassman and shortstop Maria Leidner each picked up a single. Catcher Ashlee Hunt banged out a triple.
“I couldn’t be happier with our first outing,” added Vail. “Now our girls know what to expect from collegiate softball competition. Although we made a couple errors and mental mistakes, our team came out with great effort and attitude. They showed me that they are committed to improving. I am so proud our women.”
The Knights play the Carleton College Knights at 10 p.m. March 1, 2010, at the Irish Sports Dome. The following Thursday, March 4, 2010, they take on St. Olaf College, also at 10 p.m. at the dome. Stay up late and cheer them on!
From there, it’s off to the 2010 Yellowjacket Classic in Rochester, Minn., March 6 & 7. For more on upcoming Knights games, visit Fastpitch Softball Schedule & Results.
I like the action shot at the top, Chris!
