In an earlier post, we mentioned that Mary Lou Clymer, a graduate of the DCTC Landscape Horticulture program, took home the Grand Honor Award for Residential Design at the 2010 Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association Northern Green Expo. Clymer, who graduated from DCTC in 2001, works as a senior designer at Gertens in Inver Grove Heights, Minn. She started working at Gertens about seven years ago and her winning design was a project early from her portfolio, one that involved an almost pure planting plan on a quadruple-sized residential lot with a 150′ x 60′ pond.

Colleen Moran, Gertens design director and Clymer’s boss, reports that she values the graduates of LAHT at DCTC, noting that they leave the program with solid skill sets—with several having gone on to become superb employees at Gertens. A whiz with computers, crazy about plants and blessed with an incredible work ethic, Clymer has proven to be one of the best.

“I am very proud of Mary Lou,” said Moran. “I always knew she was a talented designer.”
