Five Blue Knights Soccer Players Make ICCAC Region XI 1st Team All-Region

Head Coach Cam Stoltz Named ICCAC Region XI Women’s Coach of the Year

Both the women and men’s 2009–2010 Blue Knights soccer teams at Dakota County Technical College just completed banner years, each setting program records for wins, the women going 16–6 with the men finishing 15–6–1. A total of 15 players from both teams were selected for ICCAC Region XI 2009 All-Region Soccer honors. Head Coach Cam Stoltz was named the ICCAC Region XI Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year.

The women’s soccer team rolled past Iowa Central Community College 5–1 in the NJCAA Region XI semifinals Saturday, Oct. 31, in Des Moines, Iowa, but couldn’t break through Iowa Western Community College in the championship game the following day, losing 1–3 to the Reivers, who are ranked #5 in the latest NJCAA Top 10 national poll.

The Lady Knights placed second in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference, or ICCAC, going 6–2, behind IWCC, which is 17–0–1 overall and 8–0 in conference play heading into the District C Semifinal.

The men’s team came very close to upsetting Iowa Western Community College, but eventually lost 0–1 in the NJCAA Region XI semifinal game Saturday, Oct. 31, also in Des Moines. The men ended up tied for third with North Iowa Area Community College in the ICCAC, with both teams posting 8–3–1 conference records.

Coach Stoltz and his staff are looking forward to next season thanks to a large number of returning players from both squads. “As it stands now, we will have eight out of eleven starters returning to the men’s team with sixteen out of twenty-five players returning overall,” said Stoltz. “We expect ten players to return to the women’s team.”

Stoltz added that both programs will continue strong recruiting efforts to not only build on the successes of this past season, but to also advance the standing of DCTC soccer in the long run. The 2010–2011 season will mark the second year that the Blue Knights will play home games on the college’s Rosemount campus at the Ames Soccer Complex, the most modern and complete small-college soccer facility in the upper Midwest.
