DCTC Men’s Soccer Battles IWCC to 0–1 Loss in NJCAA Region XI Semifinals

15–6–1 record stands as finest season in Blue Knights history

The DCTC Blue Knights men’s soccer team came very close to upsetting Iowa Western Community College, but eventually lost 0–1 in the NJCAA Region XI semifinal game Saturday, Oct. 31, in Des Moines, Iowa.

“We outshot the Reivers 16–15,” said Head Coach Cam Stoltz, “and they outfouled us 17–16 in an often heated game. We hit the post twice on hard shots, the last one coming with just one second left in the game—but you can’t advance if you don’t score.”

Coach Stoltz added that his team played a great, competitive game in the loss to IWCC, which fell to Iowa Central Community College in the finals. He also noted that the Blue Knights put together a 15–6–1 record for the year, which marks the best season yet for the team.

DCTC ended up tied for third with North Iowa Area Community College in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference, or ICCAC, with both teams posting 8–3–1 conference records.

“As it stands now, we will have nine out of eleven starters returning with sixteen out of twenty-five players returning to the men’s team overall,” said Stoltz. “We will also continue our extensive recruiting efforts and are looking forward to improving on the success we had this season.”
