Heading for NJCAA Region XI Final Four
In a NJCAA Region XI quarterfinal game hosted by DCTC at the Ames Soccer Complex Tuesday, Oct. 27, the Blue Knights men’s soccer team toppled a tough and talented Indian Hills Community College squad 5–1 and moved on to the region’s Final Four in Des Moines, Iowa.
“We knew they had some dangerous players and we worked hard to keep the ball away from them,” said Head Coach Cam Stoltz. “Our goal was to score early and often so that we could knock the Warriors out their playing style. At the half, we were up three zero.”
The Knights are now 15–5–1 on the season, which is an all-time record best for the team. They will face Iowa Western Community College Saturday, Oct. 31, at 12 p.m. on Field 7 at the James W. Cownie Soccer Park in Des Moines.
Last year, the Knights lost to IWCC after a penalty kick shootout and the team’s returning veterans are looking to even the score. This year, DCTC lost to the Reivers twice, 0–1 at home and 0–3 away.
If DCTC gets past the Reivers, who are 14–4–0 on the season and ranked #15 in the latest NJCAA Div. I poll, they will face either Northern Iowa Area Community College or Iowa Central Community College for the Region XI championship Sunday, Nov. 1, also on Field 7. After that it’s off to one district game before heading to the nationals in Tyler, Texas, as one of the Final 16 in the country.
