Men’s Soccer Wins Regional Quarterfinal

Blue Knights topple Indian Hills Community College 3–2

On Wednesday evening, Oct. 29, in Faribault, Minn., the NJCAA Region 11 quarterfinal pitted the DCTC Blue Knights men’s soccer team against the Indian Hills Community College Warriors for the third time this season. DCTC scored with 18 minutes remaining to push past IHCC 3–2. The final score exactly matched the results of the two previous outings.

Outshooting the Warriors 23 to 6, the Knights constantly pushed up field, resulting in 19 offside whistles—a program record. Indian Hills was not called offside once during the game. DCTC controlled most of the play, coming up short on many attempts.

DCTC freshman El Elnimeriy (Rochester John Marshall) was able to secure the win by scoring off  sophomore Caleb Addo’s assist. Sophomore Vince Mbibi (Robinsdale Cooper) and sophomore Geofrey Kalanzi (Kabojja School, Kampala, Uganda) scored DCTC’s first two goals.

DCTC advances to play the Iowa Western Community College Reivers in a regional semifinal game in Mason City, Iowa, on the North Iowa Area Community College campus Saturday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m. The Blue Knights split the regular season series with Iowa Western with each team winning a 4–3 decision on the other teams home field.

If the Knights win, they will play in their first regional championship ever Sunday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m., also on the NIACC campus. DCTC has advanced to the regional semifinals five years in a row, coming up short each time, losing three our of four semifinal games in overtime.
