Men’s soccer loses to Iowa Western Reivers 3-4
On Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 16, Blue Knights men’s soccer hosted Iowa Western Community College in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) regular season action. The Knights controlled play early on, but IWCC eventually put together two first-half goals.
The Reivers scored early in the second half before DCTC sophomore Vince Mbibi (Robinsdale Cooper HS) made the score 3-1 with the Knight’s first penalty kick of the year. Sophomore Geoffrey Kalanzi (Kabojja School, Kampala, Uganda) followed up with his first goal of the season off an assist from Freshman Chad Dorrian (Prior Lake HS).
IWCC found the net again to make the score 4-2 before Mbibi got his second goal of the game with an assist from sophomore Arnes Habibovic (John Marshall HS), closing the gap to one goal.
The Reivers held on to head home with the win. DCTC dropped to 1-4 in the ICCAC and 1-5-1 overall.
“One positive we can take from this last week is that we’ve played really well considering our competition,” said Head Coach Cam Stoltz. “So far this season, we’ve faced the number one, three and 10 teams in the country. That doesn’t include IWCC, but the Reivers are still a league favorite.”
“Our difficult schedule should start to pay off as we head into the rest of the season and prepare for October,” Stoltz added.
