Men’s soccer pulls to 1-1 in conference play; 1-2-1 overall

Getting blanked three games in a row made the Blue Knights men’s soccer team hungry for goals, which led to a 10-2 rout of the Ridgewater College Warriorson Saturday, Sept. 6, in Willmar, Minn.

Down 0-2 early on, the Knights eventually bounced back when sophomore Vince Mbibi (Robbinsdale Cooper) scored, opening the floodgates for six goals in 20 minutes. The Knights added another four goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half. The game was officially called due to a thunderstorm with 25 minutes remaining on the clock.

Freshman Derek Randall (Marshall School, Duluth) earned his first college victory in goal for the Knights.

The two DCTC losses were against the defending NJCAA I national champion Yavapai College Roughriders and the defending 2007ICCACand Great Lakes District championsMarshalltown Community College Tigers. The third shutout was a frustrating 0-0 overtime tie versus Paradise Valley Community College in 100°F heat in Arizona.

Looking forward to the rest of a very competitive 2008 schedule, the Blue Knightsplay their first home game of the season Wednesday, Sept. 10, when they host ICCAC runner-up North Iowa Area Community College. The Trojans are currently unbeaten at 4-0-1. The game kicks off at 4p.m. at Rose Park in Burnsville on Judicial Road and County Road 42.

The Knights play at home again on Sunday, Sept. 14, hosting Scott Community College of theICCAC with a 2 p.m. kickoff.
