The DCTC baseball team finished the regular season on Tuesday with a 26-13 overall record. The Blue Knights went 10-6 in the MCCC South Division, which earned the team a second place finish and a berth in the MCCC State Tournament for the fourth straight year. The Knights will be the fourth seed in the tournament, which starts Sunday morning in St. Cloud.
All games will be played at the MAC in St. Cloud at Dick Putz and Faber fields. Weather permitting; games will be played Sunday and Monday with three of the eight teams advancing to the Regional Tournament in Willmar the following weekend.
DCTC will take on fifth seed Itasca on at 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning at Dick Putz Field. The Knights will battle the winner/loser of the Ridgewater vs. Rochester game at 4:00 p.m.
2008 MCCC State Tournament Bracket
Even though they won only five of their final 10 games, the Blue Knights were still recognized nationally, receiving votes by the NJCAA in the association’s latest poll. DCTC will send 2007 NJCAA All-American Dave Geiger to the mound in the first game on Sunday with Andy Fitzgerald throwing in game two.
“Andy has had a very good year for us and Dave has really come on lately,” stated Head Coach Huber. “With these two guys pitching our first two games, we should have a good chance to win. I think our pitchers will keep us in the game if we can make plays behind them.”
