It was another year of improvement for the DCTC Blue Knights baseball program, as their season came to an end with an overall record of 25-18.
The Blue Knights faced a number of challenges this year, including their toughest schedule to date, but were still able to deliver solid performances throughout the season that led to their third straight state tournament appearance.
“We didn’t shy away from anyone this spring, which was a great learning experience for the freshman starters,” said DCTC Head Baseball Coach Tim Huber.
The experience will be particularly beneficial in the 2008 season, as Huber anticipates that 18 players – including nine starters- will be returning for another season with the Blue Knights.
“Although we just finished up our season last weekend, I am already looking ahead to next year,” said Huber. “With the players we have coming back, I am really excited.”
While the 2008 season certainly looks bright for the young squad, the end of the season also means parting ways with a few key players who have been major contributors to the Blue Knights baseball team.
“I want to give a special thank you to sophomores Mike Spurling, JaredPowell, Mick Dudero, Ben Neibaur, Rick Otto, Derek Albers, and Joe Foley, most of who played both years at DCTC. Every one of them is a great guy, which is very important to me, and they will be missed,” said Huber.
The 2007 season ended for the Blue Knights at the Minnesota Community College Conference (MCCC) State Tournament in a nail-biter against St. Cloud Tech. Heading in to the final inning, the Blue Knights had led 5-1. However, St. Cloud was able to mount a comeback and the Blue Knights took a 5-6 loss that stopped them from advancing to the Regional Tournament for the second consecutive year.
“There is no doubt that loss is incentive for the returnees to come back stronger than ever next season,” said Huber.
