Blue Knights Rack Up Three Division Wins

The DCTC Blue Knights baseball team added three MCCC South Division wins to the 2007 season this weekend, taking on Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) and Riverland Community College.

DCTC VS. RCTC

Friday, the Blue Knights managed a split against Rochester in an MCCC South Division doubleheader. They took a 5-6 loss in game one, with Rochester scoring five runs in the fourth. DCTC fought back with two runs scored in the sixth and three runs scored in the bottom of the seventh with the tying and winning runs on base, but the game ended on a hard-hit ground ball off the bat of Matt Enright.

Jared Powell and Derek Albers each collected two hits in game one.

In the second matchup against RCTC, the Blue Knights plated 12 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game at 14-4 via the 10-run rule.

Dillon Powell belted a grand slam – his team-leading fourth home run on the year – that contributed to his 2-3-effort and five RBI. Ryan Valdez and Albers also picked up two hits in the game.

Dave Geiger came on in relief of Ryan Heyer, throwing two-and-two-thirds scoreless innings to pick up his fourth win of the season.

DCTC VS. RIVERLAND

Sunday, the Blue Knights took on Riverland, where offense controlled both games. The Blue Knights put up double digits in hits and runs in each game, securing two, much-needed MCCC South Division victories at 10-5 and 12-5, respectively.

Justin Kohls pitched a solid performance in game one, going six innings, picking up five strikeouts, allowing five hits, one walk, and just one run to pick his third win of the year.

Miek Siegfried came on in relief in game two to pitch three shutout innings, earning his first win of the year.

Billy Cook and Dillon Powell, the hottest DCTC hitters as of late, paced the offense finishing the designated hitter, going 4-7 at the plate. Cook drove in seven runs during the two games, and Jared Powell had a big first game with a 4-4 effort, including a double, a home run, and four RBI.

Other notable performances included Chase Brown (4-5), Brad Beskau (3-4), and Matt Enright (3-5).
