Blue Knight Bats Fire Up During 1-2 Weekend Road Trip

The DCTC Blue Knights baseball team traveled to Missouri and Iowa this weekend, pounding out 38 hits and scoring 28 runs in the three games they played.

Head Baseball Coach Tim Huber was pleased with the offensive approach.

“We have been really struggling on defense the past couple weeks, but I think the guys we have on the team are capable and will make the needed changes, which should result in some wins,” said Huber.

The North Central Missouri team was able to defeat the Blue Knights 6-8 in game one. Chase Brown led off with a home run and had a big two-out, two RBI single in the fourth to put DCTC up 6-1. But in the bottom of the fourth, North Central came up to bat and scored seven unearned runs to secure the game.

Despite the loss, Dillon Powell swung the bat well, managing two solo home runs and a third ball that was tracked down and caught at the fence. Overall in the three games, Powell went 7-14 with two home runs, three doubles, and five RBI.

Ryan Heyer pitched a quality game, allowing just one earned run. He currently leads the team with a 0.55 ERA.

DCTC wasn’t finished with North Central yet, with the bats heating up in game two for a 16-11 win. Seven players recorded multiple hits, including Powell (3 2B), Spencer Braun; Spencer Braun, Billy Cook, and Tyler Jendro each with three hits; and Brown, Adam Stuessel, and Matt Enright with two hits apiece. Powell picked up the win in relief to even his record at 1-1 on the year.

On Saturday, the Blue Knights played one 9-inning game vs. Indian Hills CC in Centerville, IA, losing 6-7. Of the seven runs scored by Indian Hills, only two were earned.

Offensively, Derek Albers and Powell each collected two hits in the game.

The DCTC Blue Knights baseball team will be at home against North Central Missouri at noon on Saturday, on the road to Anoka on Thursday at 2 p.m., and on the road to Riverland on Sunday at 1 p.m.
