Following a confidence-boosting 7-1 win over the Mount Marty four-year varsity soccer program, DCTC has hopes of being able to upset Iowa Western in the NJCAA Regional semifinal this Saturday.
Earlier this year, DCTC lost twice to Iowa Western, who enters the match as the region’s number one seed and is ranked eighth in the nation with a record of 15-1-1.
DCTC’s current 2006 season record is 4-9-2, with six of those losses being only by one goal. The Blue Knights have shown great promise, including 13 freshmen on a squad with many 90-minute players and leading scorer Emily Darmer, who has racked up 13 goals and three assists.
Saturday’s match is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Bettendorf, Iowa. The winner of the match will advance to the championship game on Sunday at 11 and face the winner of the Iowa Central vs. Scott Community College face-off.
