A cold, rainy weekend set the stage for two losses in the Regional Tournament in Willmar, ending the 2006 season for the DCTC Blue Knights.
The first DCTC loss was to Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), where Adam Tollefson, the MATC pitcher, shut down the Blue Knights offense, allowing only three hits. MATC scored four runs in the first inning and put two more on the board for a final score of MATC 6, DCTC 0.
Mesabi took the victory over the Knights in the second game despite the Blue Knights jumping out with a 3-0 lead, with one run in the second and two in the third. However, the game was postponed due to rain and poor field conditions.
When the game resumed on Saturday, Mesabi came back and scored seven runs to DCTC’s one, ending the Blue Knights season with a 4-7 score.
