After splitting doubleheaders with Ridgewater and Rochester this past week, the DCTC Blue Knights now stand at 15-11 on the season.
On Wednesday, the Blue Knights played their home opener against Ridgewater. The Blue Knights trailed 7-4 into the bottom of the seventh during game one, when Alex Smith led things off with a walk. Kyle Sovde singled and was followed up two batters later by an RBI single off the bat of Dale Stein.
With two men on base, Jared Powell came on to pinch hit and promptly drilled a game-tying, two-run double. Two hitters later, Tom Barilla stepped up to the plate and singled to right field, scoring Powell from first base for the winning run, giving the Blue Knights the 8-7 victory.
In game two, Ridgewater put runs on the board after knocking out 12 runs on 12 hits. The Knights were only able to mange two runs on four hits in the game, resulting in a 2-12 loss.
Saturday, the Blue Knights saw two outstanding pitching performances in a split against Rochester Community and Technical College. The first game saw DCTC scoring the first run of the game in the top of the sixth on an RBI sing off the bat of Derek Albers. RCTC would answer with three of its own, however, giving DCTC the 1-3 loss.
DCTC woke up the bats in the second game, scoring six runs on nine hits. This was more than inspiration for Alex Smith, who, starting in only his second game of the season, pitched a complete game, striking out six RCTC hitters with no walks and scattering seven hits. The two runs scored by RCTC were unearned and DCTC came away with the 6-2 victory.
Brian Hanson had a big two RBI doubles in the game and Paul Krebs and Ryan Van Dusen each had two hits.
Next up, the Blue Knights take on Worthington at home Tuesday, April 18. This weekend, the Knights face RCTC on Saturday at home and MN West on Sunday in Worthington. Game times are at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. each day.
