The DCTC baseball team displayed their talents for family, friends, and supporters on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Alimagnet Park in Burnsville.
A home run contest was the first event of the day, with Brian Hanson (Royalton HS) besting the competition and claiming the crown over the other big hitters.
In the nine-inning inter-squad game that followed, scoring would begin for both teams in the second inning. Hits from Spencer Ancel (Lakeville HS), Tyler Morales (South St Paul HS), and Jason Gergen (Randolph HS) resulted in the White team plating five runs in the top half.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Pinstripes were able to answer. With one out, the next two hitters were able to get on base. Mike Krejci (Apple Valley HS) got on base with a walk, and Rick Otto (Randolph HS), had a base hit. Following a defensive error, the Pinstripes got on the board, making the score 5-2 after two innings.
The White team was only able to manage one other run the remainder of the game, but led 6-4 going into the bottom of the eighth. Once again, it was Krejci who started things for the Pinstripes with a walk. A few walks and wild pitches later, the Pinstripes had knotted the score at 6 and the game ended, each team out of scheduled pitchers.
Gergen led the White team with 3 hits and 2RBI, and Ryan Van Dusen (Apple Valley HS) chipped in two hits. For the Pinstripes, Krejci had a solid day at the plate with two hits and two walks in five plate appearances, scoring 3 runs.
For the White team pitching staff, Mike Spurling (Sibley East HS) pitched a scoreless inning and notched two strikeouts. Mike Herald (Richfield HS) was able to strike out 3 batters in his two innings of work. For the Stripes, Tyler Pachl (South St Paul HS) struck out two batters in his one inning of work.
DCTC will open the 2006 season at the Metrodome Friday, March 10, with a 6:00 a.m. doubleheader vs. DuPage CC (IL). March 12-18, 2006, they will hit the road for their spring trip to play 8 games in Port Charlotte, Florida.
