The DCTC Blue Knights men’s and women’s soccer programs kick off their 2005 campaign on Friday in Council Bluffs, Iowa against Iowa Western Community College. The games will be the Blue Knights’ first contests as part of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).
Following these matchups, the Knights travel to Fort Dodge, Iowa to take on Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.
After the Iowa road trip, the Blue Knight men start their home schedule on Aug. 31 against North Iowa Area Community College, while the women start at home on Sept. 4 in the Blue Knights Kickoff Classic tournament. It is the third season for the women’s team, and the second year for the men. All home games are played at Rich Valley Park in Inver Grove Heights.
In addition to entering the ICCAC, the Blue Knights coaching staff changed a bit during the off season. Hisham El-Adawe and Mark Wielebnowski have joined third-year head coach Cam Stoltz to lead the team.
El-Adawe, who will serve as associate head coach, comes most recently from Chaska High School where he served as the head girls’ soccer coach for two years, and assistant coach for three years. El-Adawe currently works with the Eden Prairie soccer club as a premier level girls’ coach and the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association as an Olympic development coach.
Wielebnowski, originally from London, played for 22 years at a professional level in England. The former men’s head coach at Southgate College won five conference titles, led a championship (1995) and a runner-up (1997) in the South England Universities Plate Cup. Possessing a USSF ‘A’ National License & UEFA ‘B’ coaching license, Wielebnowski currently serves as technical director of the Eagan Soccer Club.
The Blue Knights are expected to be strong this year, boasting of a solid recruiting class from throughout the region. Top returning men include Casey Holm (Hudson, Wis.), Pat Harnett (Forest Lake), Matt Tjaden (Rosemount). Impressive recruits include Jacob Belanger (Brainerd), Steven Langmaack (Burnsville), Adam Beebe (Rosemount), Justin Chang (Apple Valley), Tyler Kline (Burnsville), and Charlie Bucksohl (Woodbury).
