Blue Knights Drop Two Close Games In Iowa

Fresh from a successful run at the Metrodome last week, the DCTC Blue Knights headed south to Iowa on Tuesday to take on Iowa Lakes Community College. Unfortunately, the winds of the Iowa prairie blew the wrong way, with the Knights losing two close contests.

The first game was especially heartbreaking. Leading 2-1 headed into the bottom of the final inning, DCTC missed a double-play opportunity, allowing a run to score. That was followed by a dropped fly ball and the winning run by Iowa Lakes. Final score: Iowa Lakes 3, DCTC 2.

DCTC’s Mike Spurling, who tossed a perfect game last week against St. Cloud Technical College, turned in another solid performance, going six innings, striking out six and only allowing four hits, including one solo home run.

The second game of the doubleheader was an 8-5 victory for Iowa Lakes.

Standouts on the day for DCTC included Steve Kleppen, who went 4-6, and Charles Stene, who went 3-7 with 3 RBI.

Next up for DCTC is Mesabi Range Community College at Rosemount High School. Game times are 1 and 3 p.m.
