The DCTC Blue Knights hosted their first home tournament over the weekend, welcoming the two-time defending national champion Yavapai College to town. Both Blue Knights teams played well, scoring their first wins of the young season, and ending up with 1-1 records against tough competition.
After falling to Marshalltown Community College (Iowa) 9-1 on Saturday, the men’s team shut down Scott Community College (Iowa) 4-0. The win was the first in program history after beginning its inaugural campaign with an 0-3 record.
In the men’s championship game, two-time defending national champion Yavapai College (Arizona) defeated Marshalltown 4-1.
The win against Scott gives DCTC a 1-3 record going into its upcoming road trip to Madison, Wisconsin and Grayslake, Illinois to take on Madison Area Community College and Lake County College.
On the women’s side, the DCTC women suffered an early season drubbing of its own, losing 8-0 to Kansas Jayhawk League champion Butler Community College. The game was the second of the weekend after the Blue Knight women blasted Scott Community College (Iowa) 10-0 the day before.
The loss to Butler gives DCTC a 1-2 record going into Wednesdays home match against Macalester at 4 p.m. The game will be played at Johnny Cake Park in Apple Valley.
