Blue Knights Split Weekend Series Against Minnesota West

If there was a hero for the Blue Knights on Saturday against Minnesota West, it was Ross Metzger. Metzger’s pitching and a clutch base hit in the bottom of the 7th inning guided the Blue Knights baseball team to a 4-3 win in the first of two games played Saturday, April 24 against Minnesota West.

Coach Kerry Lurken said Metzger threw a four-hitter with eight strikeouts in the game, and then connected with two out in the bottom of the 7th to keep the Blue Knights alive. Troy Jacobson followed up Metzger’s hit with his own single to score the winning run and notch the 4-3 victory at home.

DCTC lost the second game of the doubleheader, 6-2, due mainly to the amount of walks given up by Blue Knights pitchers.

“Walks will always haunt you, and we have to start limiting them in each game,” Lurken said. “We are a very young team, but we are showing improvement every day on and off the field.”

“All of our ballplayers are having fund, and that is the most important part of playing this game,” he continued. “We had some key hits, and it really made the team excited knowing we can play with the best of them.”

The Blue Knights have three more doubleheaders scheduled for the regular season – April 28 (Bethany Lutheran in Mankato); April 30 (Riverland at home); and May 1 (Rochester at home). Home games are played at the Rich Valley Complex in Inver Grove Heights.
